I connected the jumper back up and saw no change at all. it started easy, idled good and the voltage at idle was at 14.6 volts, same as before. To my surprise, the bike acted as though the jumper was still connected, at 37 deg. But, before I did, I disconnected the ground jumper from the igniter to see how the bike would start. I went out to the shop yesterday to start Ms. I attribute the issues I'm seeing to that, more than anything. OTOH, I also haven't had SISF service on my carbs, nor have I synced them, so they're likely dirty, and badly adjusted. I didn't see the really dramatic improvements that others did, though. It also seems a tad smoother at speed, though that could just be because I *want* it to.Īll that to say that I'm not sorry I did the mod, and it *did* help a little. Now, after idling for a bit, I do think the bike runs a little better when cold (as in, when I first start out on a cold morning, I don't have to be as light on the gas formerly, the bike didn't run under load. I tried giving the bike some gas right after starting, to see if it would take (or bog down, like always) it bogged down. I tried turning the enricher off right after starting, to see if the bike would keep running it doesn't. I got a new battery about a month ago, so starting has been really easy anyway. I did the mod, but am not sure I'm seeing the same magnitude of results that others are. Please continue to post up your results, so we can see if all our bikes benefit from this mod. As i understand this from SteveJ, the results would really be the same as cutting the wire as I did well, close enough anyway. It's right close to the rubber grommets that the side cover plugs into.Īnother way to do this would be to just plug into the accessory lead ground on the rear fender. Since I had the remaining tag end of the ground wire available, I just connected it to the frame at the R saddlebag bumper bolt. The additional effect would be brighter lights, more available watts (what's?) and of course increased presence with the ladies : Something about homers' law, sumpin like dat ?

SteveJ also explained that it's not necessary to cut into the ignitor wire tapping into it and running to a good known ground point would have the same effect. This could be from wiring that's to small, or to much wire with insufficient points to ground. SteveJ proved to be the smartest of the smart, and explained that any resistance in the ground wire would show as a voltage drop. I spoke to a bunch of folks smarter than me (not hard to find) about why there's voltage present in the ground wire.

I'm posting this separate from the other thread, because it would have been lost in there, and bears consideration.
